Background and Vision

Indonesia faces a complex and evolving primary health care landscape. With over 10,000 Puskesmas (community health centres) serving a population of 270 million across more than 17,000 islands, the demand for evidence-based, locally relevant, and globally informed research in family medicine and primary care has never been greater.

The Journal of Family Medicine, Primary Care, and Community Health Indonesia (FPCHI) was founded to bridge this gap — providing a rigorous, internationally visible platform where researchers, clinicians, public health practitioners, and policymakers can share evidence that directly strengthens primary care systems and improves population health outcomes.

FPCHI is guided by the conviction that strong primary care is the foundation of equitable, efficient, and people-centred health systems — a principle enshrined in the Alma-Ata Declaration (1978), the Astana Declaration (2018), and Indonesia's national health strategy under the JKN universal health coverage framework.

Mission and Core Values

Global Reach, Local Relevance

We publish research that meets international standards while remaining grounded in the realities of primary health care in Indonesia and the wider Southeast Asian region.

Open Access for All

All published content is freely accessible to everyone, everywhere — with no article processing charges for authors and no subscription fees for readers, removing barriers to knowledge for researchers in low-resource settings.

Rigorous Peer Review

Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts. We uphold the highest standards of research integrity, guided by COPE, ICMJE, and the Declaration of Helsinki.

Community and Family Centred

We prioritise research that places the patient, family, and community at the centre of care — reflecting the holistic, longitudinal, and relationship-based principles of family medicine practice.

Evidence into Practice

FPCHI bridges the gap between research and clinical practice by publishing findings that are directly applicable to primary care settings — from Puskesmas and community clinics to national health policy.

Equity and Inclusion

We actively welcome contributions from researchers across all career stages and institutions, with particular encouragement for authors from low- and middle-income countries and underserved health communities.
